The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame released its list of nominees for the Class of 2022 on Wednesday (Feb. 2), with a total of 17 artists up for induction this year.
Though several artists — such as Dolly Parton, Beck, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, A Tribe Called Quest, and Carly Simon — earned their first nominations on Wednesday, only one act among the first-time nominees fall within the rap genre: Eminem. The “Monster” rapper is nominated in his first year of eligibility, following a rule from the Rock Hall that states that an artist’s first commercial recording needs to be released 25 years earlier than the year of nomination.
Should Eminem earn a place within the Rock Hall in 2022, he joins a small group of rappers who have been honored with an induction. From 2021 inductees Jay-Z and LL Cool J to early rap pioneers in Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, here are all the rappers who have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
